CCC 19 - Extremes and GC74 - Versamark

Linda is taking us to the "Extremes" during our 19th week of A Compendium of Curiosities challenge and so we open our books to page 61! It is hard to believe that we have surpassed the halfway point and I wonder when all is said and done, what will we do? Personally, I don't think Linda can just leave us with nothing to do. I sure hope she is not reading this and getting ready to smack me for starting something!

Mr. Snowman will also go visit the Technique Junkies as we did a "antique glimmer" technique and the wonderful Gingersnappers are having their GC74 - Versamark!

I used my new TH Sizzix snowman die for a mask and of course Distress Inks and I did give it a spray of Glimmer Mists after achieving the colors I wanted. The blues are actually prettier in person! I cut out an extra snowman, because I frankly wanted to give him a fancy hat which was heat embossed. The snowflakes, music sheet, sentiment and 25 stamp are all from Scrolls Work Stamps. After I embossed the snowflakes, I thought about giving them a stained glass look, so colored them with red and green markers. I actually love how they turned out and hope you can see the flakes ok. BTW there is a sale over at Scrolls Work, so go check it out. For every $25 you spend, you receive a $5 rebate and that equals a 20% discount.

Wishing all of you a fabulous week!  Thank you for visiting!

Carli and George visit Gingersnap Creations and Simon Says Stamp and Show

Carli and George are taking their love over to Gingersnap Creations GC74 Versamark and Simon Says Stamp and Show "Anything but a card." The flower was stamped using a word and sequence stamp, embossed and then shaded. I really liked how the two stamps worked with this flower. The Genie Lamp was embossed on tissue paper and then reversed. The frame was done using two colors of fine glitter and I used a Halloween lace piece to achieve the crackle appearance. A music stamp was used on mulberry paper and then torn. The sentiment is mine and printed on mulberry paper. The frame is a $1.00 find at Michael's. All stamps used in this altered frame are from Scrolls Work Stamps.

Hope you enjoy this little project of mine! Thank you so kindly for visiting and commenting! Have a wonderful day!

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 18 - The Play Date Cafe PDCC51 - SSSS

Today we are at The Play Date Cafe PDCC51 and just in time, I might add! Some of us, not you, lose track of time and think there are more days in a week! The colors we are playing with are Beige, Pale Blue and Pale Mint - ish green! My colors are more to the challenge colors in real life, but I think we all know what cameras do to color! BTW we are having some incredible storms here today and I mean thunder and lightning like I have not seen. It started last night and it scared our Molly, who decided to sleep right in the middle! That is ok, because I was not going to sleep with that noise anyway!
Now we have the new CCC18 challenge happening over at Studio L3. Again being queen idiot is a tough job and I obviously enjoy it. I cut out four piece of card stock and all four pieces failed this test miserably! Some of the resist showed up, but most was just happy to fade into the background. I used a more detailed stamp and then gave up. So we moved on to the tag, thinking maybe cardstock was the problem. We also moved onto a different stamp with a little less detail and surface area. This is what we now have! Oh the butterflies were cut and embossed with a Stampin Up die from the original mishaps and then highlighted! Now are they not worth the wasting of an entire sheet of cardstock, time and ink and very sore arms? Don't answer that one! The flourish is Impression Obsession. The "Whatever" and I think we know why I used that one, is from Hero Arts.

Simon Says Stamp and Show's challenge this week is anything but cards, so we are off to show there as well!

Have a most happy evening and many thanks for stopping by.

CCC17 / GC73 / TheCheerfulStampPad

The bewitching hour strikes again as the wonderful Linda brings us to page 64 of "The Compendium of Curiosities." Our lesson for the week is to create Fragment Charms and I know there will be those show-offs out there, who will make some incredible art! Then there is me!!! I can spend an entire day - no bull - and this is what happened! All I knew is that I was going to alter a box top. The outside back and sides are designer papers that I cut and glued down along with the inner frame. The back of the inside box top was done using a Batik technique in a previous lesson and in which I did the spider webs, then the "GROSS" spiders were embossed and highlighted using a technique from the Technique Junkies. The embossing folder is a new Sizzix release! This background would look really great on a card where you actually see more of it. Miss Skully is a new Tim Holtz stamp and she was white embossed on black and cut out. Now I first had her hanging via a chain and I just hated that she kept wanting to turn her back to me, so we added five layers of mounting tape to her back. We wanted a little dimension.  I understand she does not care for the hair, but we all have bad hair days and at least she has hair! We gave her eyes and the wiggly ones my DH so adores.

Now check out the necklace and belt on her skirt, she needed to feel a little pretty. BTW, the skirt is from some lace that Vicki so kindly sent to me. Also Vicki is having a little fun challenge of her own and because it involves "Women and a stamp," guess where this is going. I don't think this is what Miss Cheerful Ink Pad had in mind, but I want her to see the beautiful skirt! By all means pop over to Vicki's and join in with the fun, because it is all about the art and share and today is Vicki's birthday!

I am also sending this beauty over to Gingersnap Creations GC73 - Gothic Elements. Not sure exactly how much Goth is happening here, but I am sure if you look hard, there is something!

Friday October 15th is the last day to post a comment here to be eligible for my blog candy drawing of a $25 gift certificate to Scrolls Work Stamps.

Cindy Adkins' Creative Spirit October

This month I decided to share something I created over 14 years ago with Cindy's Creative Spirit. There was a time when I was an avid sewer/seamstress. These vests are some of the last items that I created. The designs are my own and some of the fabrics have been manipulated to create layers. I suppose you could say altered! I never really wore these, because it is more wearable art and maybe a little too bold! Don't ask why I stopped sewing, because I don't know. Not even sure if I could come close to doing this again! I have made my DH's dress shirts, fashion jeans, evening a gown, a queen size quilt and most of my clothes at one time.

Now the quilt I still have, but it is just a glad rag now. One of my rescued Dalmatians decided one time when I left her home, to use it as a chew toy. Upon opening the door and seeing cotton batting covering my floor like snow, I kind of figured out what happened. Do you wonder if I beat her or gave her back, absolutely not. Dogs that you rescue have been for the most part abused, neglected or totally misunderstood and need extra positive attention. It is not their fault that someone did not speak dog!! To this day, I will always rescue a dog and take my chances on what little surprises they may have in store for me. There is nothing as awesome as bringing home a rescued baby and watching it grow to be a happy camper! I could go on about things my dogs have done, but that is not why you are here. However I think it takes a pretty creative spirit to figure out ways to dog proof your house and belongings! I am just thankful that bad behavior was not potty accidents, but I would have figured out a course of action for that one!!

I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and doing something with the people and or animals that are a big part of your life. Cindy was so wonderful to have me as a featured artist on her blog, "I Owe It ALL To Him" and there is some really great inspiration there, so take a look around! I also have a post about being a new Design Team member at Scrolls Work Stamps and a blog candy offer if you would like to enter. Just leave a comment on the October 1st post. Thank you for taking the time to visit and comment.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge Week 16 - GC70 Punches

This week at the CCC #16, we are on page 33 and doing Wrinkle Free Distress! Now when I saw Linda's (that would be our fearless leader) beautiful tag with the airy background, I was so excited. Went to read the instructions and thought, this is easy!!!! Well it is, but I was getting anything but a airy soft feel! Honestly, it looked like crap to me and I hate being that blunt! I thought I had picked out really nice Fall colors, but guess I fooled myself. So we go onto tag #2 and pretty much had the same "crapola" background! Once again, the brilliant ideas I had in my "little" brain, got up and left the room! So while looking at my "not stunning" backgrounds, the new TH Sizzix Alteration dies I picked up, screamed out, "use me" and so leaves were born. After I cut the leaves, I ran them through a TH Textured Fades folder and highlighted the veins, shaded the edges and ran a Copic glitter pen around the outside edges and veins.

I already knew I wanted to use the pumpkin stamps from Scrolls Work Stamps, so did this technique again using orange tones! The leaves and stems were stamped a second time from the previous "unloved tags." cut out and placed on top of the little pumpkins. The sentiment is also Scrolls Work Stamps and embossed on yet another leaf! The green designer paper was also embossed with a CB folder and highlighted using "Cuttlebug Highlights" from the Technique Junkies! Now I want you to check out the Pumpkin eyes!! When I showed this to my DH he said, "that came out really good," but you need eyeballs. Well his idea of eyeballs was to use those weird little wiggly things, but I decided it needed pearls.
So now what do you really think about this card?? Two things I want to say, other than thank you for being here! On October 1st I made an announcement concerning my being a Design Team member for Scrolls Work Stamps and a blog candy offer, so scroll down to enter! The second thing is that I have been a Technique Junkie member for at least two years and if you are not a member, seriously think about it! If you are starting out and want to learn, you can't beat this! There is a cost, but it is the best investment you can make. I have learned so much by being a "Junkie" that I would not have learned otherwise. This is a wonderful group with some of the most awesome ladies you could ever want to know. Being a Junkie also brought me to the Gingersnap Creations group and there is another incredible group with some very fun people, not to mention talent and inspiration.  This is also being linked to the GC70: Spicy Supply Challenge - Punches.

After visiting Rinda, who not only blogged about my giveaway and is having one of her own, she mentioned Something Completely Different is having a "Shades of Autumn" challenge, so we are off to visit and link there!
